History

Over the decades, Groupe TAQ has evolved, innovated and grown while keeping employee well-being and daily inclusion at the heart of every decision. Explore our journey and see how our mission, values and human commitment have shaped the adapted enterprise we are today.

1979

The beginning

Founded in 1979 by Daniel Leboeuf, Ateliers TAQ Inc. is a non-profit adapted enterprise dedicated to workforce integration for people with disabilities. In its early years, the Québec City based organization specialized primarily in printing and postal preparation services.

2013

First acquisition

Seeking to create more high-quality, sustainable jobs for people with disabilities, Gabriel Tremblay, then newly appointed CEO, actively pursued business opportunities.

Ateliers TAQ acquired the assets of Poste Express, its main competitor in binding and postal preparation. The impact was significant: revenue grew from $2.7M to $5.0M, and the integration of Poste Express employees strengthened the organization.

That same year marked the beginning of a major partnership with the Louis-Jolliet Centre, enabling workers to benefit from social integration training delivered during working hours.

2014

Diversifying our solutions

Groupe TAQ launched its food co-packing services and began a strong partnership with Chocolats Favoris. The company built its first positive-pressure food production cell to meet strict sanitary requirements.

2015

Ateliers TAQ becomes Groupe TAQ

To mark its 35th anniversary and reflect its evolving business reality, Ateliers TAQ officially became Groupe TAQ, creating two new divisions: Subcontracting and Postal Solutions.

2017

A second acquisition

Groupe TAQ completed a second, smaller acquisition with Spirale Québec, strengthening its presence in spiral binding and creating additional adapted jobs.

2018

A new Pride factory

On December 10, 2018, TAQ’s entire team celebrated the official move to a new 130,000 sq. ft. facility, its largest project to date, with a total investment of $13.4 million.

Our collective cafeteria

January 2019 marked an exciting milestone for Groupe TAQ employees, who eagerly enjoyed their first meal lovingly prepared and served by the newly formed kitchen team. This moment marked the launch of our food services. In our large kitchen, our chef and their team, made up of 5 employees living with functional limitations, prepare snacks and balanced meals every day for less than $5.00. This service helps create jobs, fosters a spirit of sharing and team belonging, and encourages healthy lifestyle habits.

2021

New business opportunities

After several years of successful collaboration, Groupe TAQ acquired Faber’s snowshoe manufacturing operations in 2021. This major transaction ensured the company’s long-term sustainability and growth, strengthening a brand that has shaped Quebec’s landscape for over 150 years. The acquisition gave new momentum to Faber, making it one of the world’s largest snowshoe producers. For Groupe TAQ, this investment is strategic, as it aims to diversity our revenue streams beyond contract manufacturing.

That same year, Groupe TAQ joined forces with Alliance 9000, an adapted enterprise in Amqui, creating Groupe TAQ | Alliance Division.

A new chapter

Centrap, an adapted enterprise operating in Mont-Joli and Baie-Comeau, acquired Groupe TAQ’s Alliance Division. Groupe TAQ refocused its operations on food co-packing, assembly, packaging, and the manufacturing of Faber snowshoes.
